The Periculum website went finally live and it was exciting to present it to everyone gathered at the latest workshop. The second part of the workshop was dedicated to the recent developments in the field of radicalisation and data analysis.

At a recent Periculum workshop, analyst Rachel Bryson (Institute for Global Change) discussed what it entails to be “charting the rift between islamist extremism and mainstream islam”. Seeing scripture interpretation through the prism of media outlets of religious groups has become a vital component in understanding the difference between radicalism and mainstream Islam.

Proactive deradicalization inside religious communities is seen a possible aid in battling extremism. Coupled with creating connections between researches, policy makers, and religious leaders – it could become a dynamic force.

Overall this workshop opened up topics such as the battle agains extremism but also the role of women in extremist backgrounds – an interesting and often overlooked topic Rachel Bryson has touched upon in her recent works as well.
